NMFS_CODE
VARCHAR2 |
NMFS Species Code. This is the 4 digit code traditionally used by NMFS HQ and regions around the country. Not all codes were added to the data at the same time so just because a code does not exist in the landings does not mean there was no fishery for that species. Although the agency tries to be proactive in assigning codes there are cases where general coding has gradually evolved into more specific coding. Groupers, sharks, and amberjacks are examples. |
