To support ocean planning activities pursuant to the Executive Order Regarding the Ocean Policy to Advance the Economic, Security, and Environmental Interests of the United States, the Energy Policy Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Rivers and Harbors Act, and the Coastal Zone Management Act.

Description:

1) Data were downloaded from: https://rda.ucar.edu/datasets/ds093.1/ using wget file retrival software

2) GRIB2 files were converted to NetCDFs

3) From the hourly global composites, a monthly mean for every year was generated

4) The monthly means were averaged together for all years (1979-2010) so that each month of the year has a monthly mean grid

5) Annual means were average together for all monthly means

6) ASC Files were converted to point files

7) Point files projected into WGS 1984 GCS

8) Point files were clipped to the Economic Exclusion Zone

9) All point files for wind speed and direction were combined into a single point file with Variable and Month / Annual Summaries as the column headers
