Summary

Abstract

On February 5, 2010, the cargo vessel M/V Vogetrader ran aground a shallow forereef in Oahu, Hawaii. In 2013, restoration efforts were implemented at the impact area, which included three types of restoration techniques: coral outplanting, rubble removal, passive restoration. In 2022, monitoring surveys were conducted at vessel grounding site to assess coral reef recovery trajectories and to compare the efficacy of the three restoration techniques. This resource includes the datasets and documentation of the 2022 monitoring surveys.

Indicates the time that data was collected in reference to restoration efforts. Times include Before, from the 2010 surveys during the initial damage assessment, and After, from the 2022 surveys.

REPLICATE
NUMBER
Defines the replicate within each zone, habitat, type, and time that data was collected for each survey. Ten quadrat replicates were performed at each site for coral demographic surveys; replicate numbers range from 1 to 10. They are unique to each quadrat e.g. all replicate 1 were in the same square meter quadrat. There are no replicates for coral outplant data as the the whole survey area was assessed.

Taxon identifier as a short code for the scientific name. For coral outplants, there are four taxa: PLOB (Porites lobata), PMEA (Pocillopora meandrina), PGRA (Pocillopora grandis) and MONT (Montipora spp.). For juvenile and adult coral surveys, a list of coral species is provided to define all taxon codes.
