Summary

Description

This table contains the species group contents that were associated with the Marine Mammal Observer Program system, when it was implemented in the early 2000s. -- This table shows the individual agency species that make up the species groups. Because fishery management quotas may be area-specific, a particular species may be associated with one species group if landed in one area, and a different species group if landed in another area. -- The only specific areas currently used for grouping species are the Bering Sea, the Aleutian Islands, the Gulf of Alaska, and the federal reporting areas within the Gulf of Alaska. Theoretically, any management area may be used in the definition of a species group.
