Summary
NOAA Fisheries scientific surveys are conducted using a diverse suite of methods that measure baseline conditions of fish stocks, protected species populations, and their ecosystems to help interpret changes in ocean health and ensure long term sustainability of living marine resources. Performing surveys are one of NMFS's core mandates, as they provide the data that serves as the basis for developing the scientific advice that supports marine resource management. These surveys are necessary for strengthening the blue economy, maintaining food security, providing marine recreational opportunities, and conserving protected resources.
PurposeThis story map is intended to communicate where and when the NWFSC and SWFSC conduct regular surveys off the U.S. West Coast, along with information on those data collections.
