Abstract

This dataset is derived from NOAA Coral Reef Watch CoralTemp sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a concentration from the European Space Agency Ocean Colour Climate Change Initiative dataset using algorithm from Barns et al., (2011). This is a monthly data with a spatial resolution of 0.05 degree. The spatial coverage is 20S to 55N, 120E to 100W, from 1998-01 to 2024-12.

Purpose

To provide users with estimated median phytoplankton size for the Pacific Ocean. The estimated median phytoplankton size is found to be an effective predictor for the bigeye recruitment of the Hawaii's longline fishery (Woodworth-Jefcoats, and Wren, 2020).
