Summary
Status of stocks authors require a longitudinal view of North Pacific observer data in format that is consistent accross time. The observer interfact (OBSINT) schema was created to provide this service. Whenever an observer cruise has its debriefed property set to yes 'Y', those data are transformed from the current data model into the legacy "Domestic" data set and loaded/updated into the Observer Interface table set. This is a data event and temoral driven process, relying on database triggers and batch executables.

| Data Access Procedure: |
Read and sign System Access Application. Contact Ren Narita at :Ren.Narita@noaa.gov for more information. |
| Data Access Constraints: |
For scientific, management, and regulation compliance purposes, all data collected by observers are confidential under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act; as amended, Public Law 109-479; 16 U.S.C. 1853; implemented at 50 CFR 679.50. Therefore unprocessed (raw) data can be shared only with authorized persons; however aggregated forms of the data are generally available.Access is restricted to personnel authorized in accordance with NOAA Administrative Order 216-100. A signed non-disclosure agreement must be on file for all authorized personnel requesting access to the data. |
| Data Use Constraints: |
The user must adhere to restrictions placed on publication of data by the Magnuson-Stevens Act as amended in 2006. |

Data Quality
| Representativeness: |
These data are the combined data from the beginning of domestic observer coverage to the present. |
|---|---|
| Accuracy: |
Since this layer presents data at less granularity and in a less normalized form, some redundancy exists as compared to the raw data (See NORPAC) |
| Precision: |
Since this layer presents data at less granularity and in a less normalized form, some loss of precision may exist as compared to the raw data (See NORPAC) |
Acronyms
| ATL | Data stored in the current ( 2008 and later) data model. Debriefed/Inseason status is defined by status codes in the observer_cruise entity. |
|---|---|
| DOMESTIC | Data stored in the domestic (debriefed) table set in the data model prior to 2008. |
| INSEASON | Data stored in the inseason (validated but not debriefed) table set in the data model prior to 2008 |
Glossary Terms and Definitions
Debriefed
| Description: |
Observer data may be in one of several states. Debriefed data has been reviewed by staff and an observer. Deck sheets have been reviewed; species identifications vetted; sampling methodology accepted; and all errors which have been identified corrected. |
