Dealer Report ID, Landing Sequence and Data Source joined to create a key that will be unique when data source is SAFIS - SWCB data sources do not have landing sequences and therefore SWCB records cannot be uniquely identified.

A combined code for state, port and county. The port in which the vessel landed the catch.

The 2 digit numeric state code for the port of landing: 07=CT; 08=DE; 22=ME; 23=MD; 24=MA; 32=NH; 33=NJ; 35=NY; 36=NC; 42=RI; 49=VA.

The 3rd and 4th digit of the port code--meaningless without the rest of the port code.

Name of county., ex.ESSEX.

Number assigned to each weighout form, or negative dealer report; Unique within a month. For 1994+ allocated data , DOCN column width is expanded, VARCHAR2(15).

Day of month (01-31). Unknown=00. Day = 00 may indicate a consolidated trip that represents more than one trip.

The dealer permit number assigned by the Northeast Regional Office Permit System (PERMIT). 00000=Unknown. Not available for 1994 in CFDBS data.

Vessel permit number assigned by the Northeast Regional Offices Vessel Permit System (VPS). 000000=no permit or no vessel, check hull number; 190998=Unknown undertonnage vessel; 390998=Unknown tonnage vessel.

Official vessel registration number painted on the hull. U.S. Coast Guard, State, or Tribal registration number. Text field--State registrations begin with two character state code. Unknown=blank/null.

Northeast Gear code; 999=Unknown. See CFDBS Gear Table(GEAR) for actual codes. For 1994+ allocated data, negear is taken from the matched VTR trip when Area Level = A; negear is supplied by the Dealer when Area Level = B,C,D or X.

The NEMFIS Area, coded as the NAFO Statistical Area for federally collected data; a three digit code for internal state waters for state collected data. For 1994+ allocated data, if Area Level = A then NEMAREA is from the VTR trip. If Area Level = B, C,D then NEMAREA is selected from a group of VTR trips with similar trip characteristics on a probabilistic basis. If Area Level = X, then nemarea is unknown.

The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) Statistical Area code. See CFDBS Area Table (AREA) for actual codes. For 1994+ allocated data, if Area Level = A then NEMAREA is from the VTR trip. If Area Level = B, C,D then AREA is selected from a group of VTR trips with similar trip characteristics on a probabilistic basis. If Area Level = X then AREA is unknown.

Area codes used by States to identify inshore harvest locations, primarily for shellfish.

0 = Uninterviewed w/minimal effort data: DA, DF, NTRIPS, FZONE... 1 = Interviewed w/detailed effort data; 2 = Mandatory/Dealer report only, i.e., no effort data; 3 = Mandatory/Vessel log only, i.e., effort data; 4 = Mandatory/Dealer and vessel log, i.e., detailed effort data.

The depth to bottom, in fathoms, coded as follows: 1 = 0-30; 2 = 31-60; 3 = 61-100; 4 = 101-150; 5 = 151-200 6 = 201-300 7 = over 300; 8= mixed; 9 = unknown. When the range of fishing depths covers two depth zones, it is the zone in which mid-depth falls. When 3 or more zones are covered, it is mixed. For 1994+ allocated data, if Area Level = A, then depthcd is derived from the VTR trip; if Area Level = B,C, D or X, depthcd is null.

The split or subtrip number. The subtrip number is 1 for non-split trips (whole trip fished within one area). For split trips, the first subtrip is 1, the second is 2, the third is 3, etc. Post 1981 subtrips are identified by document number (DOCN) and subtrip number (SUBTRIP); pre 1982 subtrips are identified by vessel, month, day and subtrip.

The tonnage class code which defines the range of gross registered tons (GRT) for the vessel indicated. If last 2 digits = 00, the exact GRT and the sub-range of GRT is unknown. For pre-82 data, see the applicable appendix of the port manual. For post-81 data, see CFDBS Vesstoncl Table.

The first digit of the tonnage class code:1 = 1 - 4 tons;2 = 5 - 50 tons;3 = 51 - 150 tons;4 = 151 - 500 tons;5 = 501 - 1000 tons;6 = 1001+ tons.

The first two digits of the tonnage class code.

The sample area code for a given species in a given statistical area. See Port Sampling Manual, Appendix A, for details.

The 4-digit Northeast Species code; the fourth digit represents market category. See CFDBS Species Table (CFSPP) for actual codes. For discard species in the CFDISCyyyy and WODISCyy views, NESPP4 is redefined as NESPP3 preceded by a 9, e.g. yellowtail flounder is 9123.

The pounds landed for a given species.

The live weight of species landed.

The value of landed catch to the nearest dollar (U.S.), paid to fisherman by dealer, for a given species. 0 = unknown.

The ratio of live pounds of a species to total live pounds of the trip.

The utilization code: 0=food fish or unknown; 2=aquaculture; 3=canned pet food (1984+); 4=Biomedical (2002+); 5=animal food (1984+); 7=bait; 8=industrial, other (2002+); 9=industrial, reduction.

The fishing zone in which sample was taken: 0 = inside coastal boundary (NEMFIS only); 1 = within 3 miles of continental U.S.; 2 = between 3 and 12 miles off the continental U.S.; 3 = more than 12 miles off continental U.S.; 4 = off foreign shores or in international waters. blank/null=Unknown. For 1994+ allocated data, if Area Level = A then Fzone is determined from the VTR trip point location, if available. If Area Level = B, C, or D then Fzone is null.

The serial number of the first page of the trip report, printed in the upper right corner of the vessel trip report (vtr) form.

The reported quantity of a species by a dealer. Must use unit of measure to interpret.

A code indicating the disposition of the catch. See CFDBS. SFDISP for the code descriptions.

The Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) serial number for a species. See the SPECIES_ITIS_NE table for a desription of the codes.

The unit of measure for a species reported quantity. See the cfdbs.SAFISUOM table for a description of the codes.

Species grade code used by ACCSP. See cfdbs.safisgrade for code descriptions.

Market code to indicate the market category for a species sold to a dealer. See cfdbs.safismarket for category descriptions.

FIPS55 state code used by ACCSP.

The code for the system used to report dealer data electronically. SAFIS_K = data is keyed using SAFIS webform; SAFIS_U = data is uploaded from the dealer to SAFIS; SAFIS_S = data is entered through a PC-based entry system and uploaded to SAFIS; CODES = the original data entry system used by Port Agents.

Commercial fisherman license issued by a State.

A 4-digit code used by ACCSP to identify a partner. The partners are the States on the Atlantic coast and Gulf of Mexico and the Federal Government (0016).

State Dealer License Number

NEGEAR code assigned from the vessel trip report.

Confirmation number that identifes the record and is given to the dealer.

Landing Sequence only applies to records from a SAFIS source - the landing sequence identifies each catch level report for a dealer report id.

Date of entry.

Entry Date from the SAFIS Audit Dealer Reports reflecting date record entered into SAFIS.

Dealer Date is a concatenation of DAY-MONTH-YEAR columns.

Common name for a species based on the nespp3 code.

Description of a grade based on SAFIS Grade Code Descriptions.

Description of a market based on SAFIS Market Categories.

Landing date from SAFIS Audit Dealer Reports for a corresponding dealer_rpt_id.
