Title: Small-boat Cetacean Surveys- Guam/CNMI EEZ (Marianas)
Status: In Work
Abstract:

Small boat surveys are conducted in the waters surrounding the islands of the Marianas. Vessel tracks were spread out from day to day to ensure broad survey coverage over a wide range of depths and were also dictated by weather and sea conditions.

Purpose:

Data collected during small-boat surveys are used for population studies. Photos are used for individual photo-identification to analyze movements, social structure, and abundance. Biopsy samples are used for genetic analysis and population structure, contaminant and stable isotope analyses. Acoustic data are used for studies on the regional differences/similarities in stocks. Satellite tag location data are used for studies on individual movements and population distribution.
