Abstract:

The MRFSS was initiated by the National Marine Fisheries Service in 1979 and is a series of annual surveys to obtain standardized and comparable estimates of participation, effort, and catch by recreational anglers in the marine waters of the United States.
Purpose:

The statistics for most of the recreational and for-hire sector are collected by coastwide sampling programs: the Marine Recreational Statistics Survey( MRFSS) the For-Hire Survey, and the Large Pelagic Survey.
