Summary
The Southeast Fisheries Science Center Mississippi Laboratories conducts standardized fisheries independent resource surveys in the Gulf of Mexico, South Atlantic, and U.S. Caribbean to provide abundance and distribution information to support regional and international stock assessments. Environmental data are collected on all fisheries independent surveys via different methods. On plankton surveys, a Continuous Underway Fish Egg Sampler (CUFES) is used to continuously collect fish egg samples, as well as environmental and meteorological data, while the sampling vessel is underway. Environmental profiles for water temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, beam transmittance, and fluorescence are conducted during surveys either during fixed station sampling or via pump through seawater systems.
