Fishery Dependent Pelagic Longline Temperature Depth/Data

The Southeast Fisheries Science Center Mississippi Laboratories conducts research and develops gear modifications to mitigate bycatch in fisheries. The data set includes data from three pelagic longline bycatch mitigation research projects, including the Grand Banks sea turtle mitigation research (2002-2003), Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Cooperative Research Project (CRP, 2005), and Gulf of Mexico bluefin tuna mitigation research (2008-2012). These data were collected in conjunction with the SEFSC Pelagic Observer Program (POP) to augment the existing POP data. This data set contains temperature, depth, and time data taken from Temperature Depth Recorders (TDRs) placed on the gangions along the length of the sets approximately nine meters above the hooks.

Data is restricted from access due to the classification/protection identified under the Magnuson-Stevens Reauthorization Act (Section 402(b)).

Data were collected by the Pelagic Observer Program. Observer information is considered confidential and shall not be disclosed, except in accordance with the requirements of the Magnuson-Stevens Reauthorization Act (Section 402(b)). It is also protected under the NOAA_AO_20216-100 and the Trades Secrets Act.

Principal investigators review the data for content to ensure the relevance/accuracy of data collected during the project.

Data resides on Networked Attached Storage (NAS) environment. Security patches/updates are immediately applied to the host environment. Data is stripped/mirrored using RAID 50 technology. Nightly backups are preformed and files are written to magnetic tape.

Data were downloaded from tags to computer on either a by set or by trip basis using a Lotek tag reader. Individual TDR files were combined using R Statistical Software.
