Abstract: |
Estimated seabird abundance from spatial statistical models developed by the NOAA Biogeography Branch. We operationally define seabirds as all avian species regularly sighted over marine waters. Given this definition, most species included in this chapter belong to the following taxonomic orders: Charadriiformes (gulls, terns, auks, phalaropes), Pelecaniformes (gannets, pelicans, and cormorants), and Procellariiformes (shearwaters, fulmars, petrels). Relative abundance is defined as the number of individual seabirds sighted per square kilometer per 15 minutes. | Description Source: NOAA |
