Full Citation Examples
LIDAR-derived binary (.las) files ASPRS ver 1.4 format containing classified points of all returns. We have 11 classifications: Unclassified, Ground, Low Veg (0.5 - 5 ft), Medium Veg (5 - 20 ft), High Veg (> 20 ft), Buildings, Low Noise, Water, Ignore Ground, Bridge Decks and High Noise. Model key points are bit-flagged and created from ground (class = 2) points using a two foot horizontal and a 0.2 foot vertical variance. The files are delivered in section formatted tiles. These files adhere to the National Enhanced Elevation Assessment (NEEA) Quality Level 2 (QL2) standards. The contractual aggregate nominal pulse spacing (ANPS) is less than or equal to 0.5m. The contractual aggregate nominal point density (ANPD) is 4.0 points or greater per square meter.
Boone County is approximately 303 square miles.
Winnebago County is approximately 554.5 square miles.

Description: |
Entwine Point Tile (EPT) is a simple and flexible octree-based storage format for point cloud data. The data is organized in such a way that the data can be reasonably streamed over the internet, pulling only the points you need. EPT files can be queried to return a subset of the points that give you a representation of the area. As you zoom further in, you are requesting higher and higher densities. A dataset in EPT will contain a lot of files, however, the ept.json file describes all the rest. The EPT file can be used in Potree and QGIS to view the point cloud. |

Process Steps
Process Step 1
Description: |
LIDAR data was collected using the Optech Galaxy sensor. The raw data was verified in MARS software for complete coverage of the project area, and boresighted to align the flightlines. Raw data files were parsed into manageable client-specific tiles. These tiles were then processed through automated filtering that separates the data into different classification groups: unclassified points, ground points, low veg, medium veg, high veg, buildings, low noise, water, ignored ground, bridge decks and high noise. The data was next taken into MARS to reclassify the erroneous points that may remain in the LIDAR point cloud after auto filter. Four points or greater per square meter (QL2) ASPRS ver 1.4 format. |

Process Step 2
Description: |
The NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) downloaded 5977 (Boone - 2112 files, Winnebago - 3865 files) laz point data files from these USGS sites: https://rockyweb.usgs.gov/vdelivery/Datasets/Staged/Elevation/LPC/Projects/USGS_LPC_IL_Boone_2018/laz/ https://rockyweb.usgs.gov/vdelivery/Datasets/Staged/Elevation/LPC/Projects/USGS_LPC_IL_Winnebago_2018/laz/ The data were in IL State Plane East (Boone County) and IL State Plane West (Winnebago County) (NAD83 (2011)), US survey feet coordinates and NAVD88 (Geoid12B) elevations in feet. The data were classified as: 1 - Unclassified, 2 - Ground, 3 - Low Vegetation (0.5 - 5 ft), 4 - Medium Vegetation (5 - 20 ft), 5 - High Vegetation (>20 ft), 6 - Buildings, 7 - Low Noise, 9 - Water, 10 - Ignored Ground, 17 - Bridge Deck, 18 - High Noise. OCM processed all classifications of points to the Digital Coast Data Access Viewer (DAV). Classes available on the DAV are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 17, 18. OCM performed the following processing on the data for Digital Coast storage and provisioning purposes: 1. Internal OCM scripts were run to check the number of points by classification and by flight ID and the gps, elevation, and intensity ranges. 2. Internal OCM scripts were run on the laz files to: a. Convert from orthometric (NAVD88) elevations to NAD83 (2011) ellipsoid elevations using the Geoid12B model b. Convert from IL State Plane East and West (NAD83 (2011)), US survey feet coordinates to geographic coordinates c. Convert the elevations from feet to meters. d. Assign the geokeys, sort the data by gps time and zip the data to database and to AWS S3 |
