Abstract

Individual identification through accurate PIT tag data is critical to establishing population status trends and migratory patterns in these protected species.

10 different models (from 3 manufacturers) of Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag scanners with 7 different frequency/manufacturer combinations were compared. Unit variability between 3 individual units of 3 models was also inve

Item Identification

Title: Measurements of the maximum read depth potential for Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag
Short Name: scanners and tag frequency combinations
Status: Completed
Abstract:

Individual identification through accurate PIT tag data is critical to establishing population status trends and migratory patterns in these protected species.

10 different models (from 3 manufacturers) of Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag scanners with 7 different frequency/manufacturer combinations were compared. Unit variability between 3 individual units of 3 models was also inve

Purpose:

To empirically determine the minimum and maximum read depth potential for 10 different models (from 3 manufacturers) of Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag scanners with 7 different frequency/manufacturer combinations.

This information is to be used to determine if the scanners currently deployed in various field projects throughout the Atlantic nesting popuation of leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles are adequate to identify the PIT tags currently in use.
