Abstract: |
Alaska groundfish fisheries observers have been monitoring domestic groundfish fishing activities in the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) off Alaska for over twenty years. The Fisheries Monitoring and Analysis Division staff has been responsible for training, briefing, debriefing and oversight of these observers. The Observer Logistics System, launched in December 2011, is the current computer tool used for observer logistics and contains data on individual observers back to 1990. |
Purpose: |
The Observer Logistics System is used by AFSC staff to manage and track observer contracts, deployment, training and debriefing. The system allows the staff to add, update, and report on the observer logistics data as needed. The technology of Application Express (APEX 4.1) with JAVA script browser painting in an Oracle 11.2g instance replaced an Oracle Forms and Reports-based system, adding new functionality and tables to provide greater system flexibility and easier work flow. The Observer Logistics System is web-based and is started by the user client by navigating to the NORPAC main menu URL with a web browser. The observer deployment and sampling histories summarize individual observers experience and are used to determine observer pay and leadership qualifications. The main menu includes: 1. Observer Data 2. Cruise Data 3. Debriefing Data 4. Training Data 5. Debriefing Reports 6. At Sea Reports 7. Training Reports Individual staff members have computer access only to certain data and reports according to their assigned roles. |
