Summary

Description

Data provide presence/absence of gross abnormalities on individual fish, identified to species, to allow calculation of the proportion of fish caught that had externally visible abnormalities. Accounting kept track of type of abnormality. Sampling was conducted weekly in the middle estuary and the outer estuary (inlet) and data were summarized by month.

Title: St. Lucie Rod-and-Reel Fish Health Study
Short Name: St. Lucie Rod-and-Reel Fish Health Study
Status: Completed
Abstract:

Data provide presence/absence of gross abnormalities on individual fish, identified to species, to allow calculation of the proportion of fish caught that had externally visible abnormalities. Accounting kept track of type of abnormality. Sampling was conducted weekly in the middle estuary and the outer estuary (inlet) and data were summarized by month.

Purpose:

The data were collected to determined prevalence of fish with abnormalities, by species, of fish caught on rod and reel (dead shrimp as bait) in the St. Lucie River Estuarine System, Florida. Trends over time were examined in relation to environmental variables, especially regulatory discharges from Lake Okeechobee, to explore potential causality.

Notes:

The data for period 1996 Nov - 2000 was for St. Lucie estuarine system only.

Beginning in 2000 July data coverage included reference sites in Jupiter Inlet (initially) and later Ft Pierce.

Other Citation Details:

Data files documentation can be made available. Cumulative reports are available for the years 2006-2009 and 2011. Progress reports prepared during previous years are also available.

Supplemental Information:

The data for period 1996 Nov - 2000 June were for St. Lucie estuarine system only. Beginning in 2000 July data coverage included reference sites in Jupiter Inlet (initially) and later Ft Pierce.
