Abstract

This data set consists of raw color digital video and black white stereo still images. Data are stored on Hi-8 video tapes (2005), MiniDV tapes (2006-2011), and External hard drives (2009-2014). Videos from the video survey are 30 or 45 minutes in length depending on the year collected. Videos from cameras mounted on fish traps are 90 min.

Title: Panama City Reef Fish Video Survey (Resource Survey)
Short Name: Reef Fish Video Survey Processed Data
Status: In Work
Abstract:

This data set consists of raw color digital video and black white stereo still images. Data are stored on Hi-8 video tapes (2005), MiniDV tapes (2006-2011), and External hard drives (2009-2014). Videos from the video survey are 30 or 45 minutes in length depending on the year collected. Videos from cameras mounted on fish traps are 90 min.

Purpose:

These data are collected as part of NOAA Fisheries SEFSC Panama City laboratorys fishery-independent survey of natural reefs on the northern half of the West Florida Shelf in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. After being processed, they are used primarily to generate annual indices of relative abundance of federally-managed reef fishes for stock assessments and to inform fishery managers. Target species include snappers (red, vermilion, gray, and lane), groupers (gag, red, scamp), gray triggerfish, red porgy, white grunt, black seabass, hogfish, and amberjacks. These data also provide information on the fish community structure patterns and trends in annual recruitment, distribution, and size composition of many reef fish species and habitat associations, structure, and distribution.
