Abstract

Hook and bait interaction feeding response data from experiments with captive reared loggerhead sea turtles ranging from 45 - 65 cm straight carapace length) were collected with 16 combinations of bait (squid or sardines, single or threaded baiting style) and hooks (14/0, 16/0, 18/0 and 20/0) during 2004-2005. A second phase of trials were conducted in 2006-2007 to test a similar range of hooks with wire appendages.

Item Identification

Title: Captive reared loggerhead sea turtles Hook and bait interaction trials From 2004-2007
Short Name: Loggerhead Hook and bait interaction trials
Status: Completed
Creation Date: 2004
Publication Date: 2011
Abstract:

Hook and bait interaction feeding response data from experiments with captive reared loggerhead sea turtles ranging from 45 - 65 cm straight carapace length) were collected with 16 combinations of bait (squid or sardines, single or threaded baiting style) and hooks (14/0, 16/0, 18/0 and 20/0) during 2004-2005. A second phase of trials were conducted in 2006-2007 to test a similar range of hooks with wire appendages.

Purpose:

Research data involving various loggerhead size classes, hook sizes, and bait types were collected to be used for bycatch mitigation, to inform management, and peer reviewed publication.

Notes:

Hook and bait interaction feeding response data from experiments with captive reared loggerhead sea turtles using circle hooks and appendaged circle hooks.

Since this is a technology testing data set in which there is no biological data, this data set may not be accepted by the archivist.
