Summary

Abstract

Table contains total count and weight/biomass for all specimens by taxon and sample. If count = 0, a code of '-999' in Mass_in_grams column indicates nothing to weigh for given record or sample. If count ?1 and length measurement column has a code of '-999', length is found on Other Inverts Length Table 'tblInvertLength', but this information was not transferred to this Other Inverts Mass Table 'tblInvertMass'. Empty length or weight column indicates parameter was not measured.

Description

Data table was created by the export of data from an SQL Server database.

Table contains taxon count, minimum and maximum length, and weight information for 'Other Invertebrates' (non-penaeid shrimp, crabs, etc.). If count = 0, a code of '-999' indicates nothing to measure or weigh for given record or sample. If count = 1 or ?2, and measurement column has '-999' code, maximum and minimum length information may be available in the Invert Length Table, but was not transferred to Invert Mass Table. Alternately, a code of '-999' may also represent the number of damaged specimens that could not be measured for a given taxon. An empty weight column indicates parameter was not measured.

All nekton were pooled by taxon and sample to determine biomass (wet weight to nearest 0.1 gram). All total counts must be divided by 2.6 to obtain number per meter-squared because the larger drop trap sampled an area of 2.6 m2. Nekton measurement protocol: Largest and smallest specimens (minimum and maximum size) were located, removed, and measured first, then a subsample of up to 20 additional specimens were measured at random from the remainder of the sample.
