In FY2014 and FY2015 the NMFS Advanced Science and Technology Working Group funded the Untrawlable Habitat Strategic Initiative to execute a testbed study designed to evaluate the performance of transitional advanced technologies. This study included a testbed range of acoustic and optical sensors to measure sampling performance and fish reactions to alternative sampling platforms (e.g. stationary, AUV and towed optical systems) in untrawlable habitats (e.g. reef).

Lineage
Lineage Statement: |
A test bed site was set up at the Florida Middle Ground along the west Florida shelf in the Gulf of Mexico using stationary stereo video cameras. A towed camera system, a ROV and an AUV were run past the test bed cameras. All video was recorded, and later viewed to identify and count fish observed on the test bed cameras, and the cameras mounted in the towed, ROV and AUV systems. Fish identifications and counts were entered into a database. |
