Title: SEFIS_Effort_2010-2024.csv
Short Name: SEFIS Trap Video Effort Data 2010-2024
Status: On Going
Publication Date: 2024-05
Abstract:

This accession contains one file available in .csv or .xlsx format of effort-related data collected in support of the National Marine Fisheries Southeast Fisheries Independent Survey (SEFIS) project from 2010 to 2024. Trap-camera deployments and CTD casts were taken off the coasts of the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida to help to assess patterns in reef fish distribution and abundance in the US southeast Atlantic.

Purpose:

To (1) increase the spatial footprint and sample sizes of fishery-independent sampling in southeast US waters (2) add video cameras as a survey gear to address trap selectivity issues and to develop annual indices off abundance for species that avoid traps (3) map hardbottom habitats using multibeam sonar to improve survey design (4) use remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) to visually assess broad- and fine-scale habitat and red snapper densities and sizes in continental shelf-break waters (5) perform research to inform survey methods and to address critical management issues, including an ongoing assessment of fisheries (split-beam) sonar as a fishery-independent survey tool, and longline surveys to assess patterns in red snapper distribution and abundance.

Supplemental Information:

Please note that this data table was not provided in the 2018 publication of the SEFIS CTD data.
