Andrea L. Schmidt

Andrea Schmidt is an Essential Fish Habitat Research Coordinator at the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC). She leads the implementation of research for the Pacific Islands Region Ichthyoplankton Survey (PIRIS), focusing on the early life history of management unit species. Her work includes morphological and genetic larval fish identification (from recently collected and historical ichthyoplankton samples), research vessel based field work (mostly aboard the NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette), R-based statistical modeling of larval fish occurrences with environmental and spatio-temporal patterns and report writing. She holds a BSc from Florida State University and an MSc from the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel (Germany) and GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research.
