Summary

NOAA Fisheries has transferred 40 metric tons (mt) dressed weight (dw) of eastern Gulf of Mexico aggregated large coastal shark (LCS) sub-region quota to the western Gulf of Mexico aggregated LCS sub-region quota. With this transfer, the adjusted eastern Gulf of Mexico aggregated LCS sub-regional quota will be 45.5 mt dw, and the adjusted western Gulf of Mexico aggregated LCS sub-regional quota will be 112 mt dw.

How long will the adjustment be effective?

The transfer will be in effect through the rest of the 2023 fishing season unless we announce another quota transfer or a fishery closure in the Federal Register.

Who is affected?

This action applies to commercial shark fishermen and shark dealers. This transfer does not affect recreational fishermen.
