Summary

The purpose of the Framework Action and proposed rule is to increase the Gulf of Mexico gray triggerfish commercial trip limit to allow commercial fishermen the opportunity to land the commercial annual catch target (ACT). Since the most recent catch limit increase in 2021, commercial landings have been around half of the catch limit. Commercial fishermen requested the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council increase the trip limit so they have a chance to harvest the catch limit. This action would increase the trip limit from 16 fish to 25 fish.
