The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is opening directed fishing for pollock in the West Yakutat District (Statistical Area 640, between 140 degrees and 147 degrees W. longitudes) of the Gulf of Alaska, effective 1200 hrs, Alaska local time (A.l.t.), April 8, 2009, according to Robert D. Mecum, Acting Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
This action is necessary to fully use the 2009 total allowable catch of pollock specified for the West Yakutat District. Other closures remain in full force and effect.
