IB 16-3: NMFS Paper Logbook Information for 2016

January 07, 2016 - 1:15 p.m.

Notice of a fishery management action.

National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will mail copies of the paper Daily Fishing Logbooks (DFLs) or Daily Accumulative Processor Logbooks (DCPLs) to groundfish fishery participants when each Federal Fisheries Permit (FFP) is renewed or when a new vessel gets an FFP, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.  The participant may request additional logbooks online at any other time during the 3-year cycle through the NMFS Alaska Region website or by calling Rebecca Campbell, Sustainable Fisheries Division at 1-907-586-7228.

The operators of catcher/processors and motherships required to use motion- compensated flow scales to weigh groundfish catch at sea must use a NMFS-approved  electronic logbook (ELB) in lieu of using the NMFS-prescribed  DCPL.

If a vessel is not required to use an ELB, the operator or owner may voluntarily use an ELB instead of a DFL or DCPL to report the vessel's activity.  For more information about using the ELB system, contact Suja Hall at 1-907-586-7462 or Suja.Hall@noaa.gov.

This information bulletin only provides notice of a fishery management action.  For the purposes of complying with any requirements of this action, you are advised to see the actual text of the action in the Federal Register.
