The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is opening directed fishing for groundfish, other than pollock, by non-Rockfish Program catcher vessels using trawl gear in the Western and Central Regulatory Areas of the Gulf of Alaska (GOA), effective 1200 hours, Alaska local time (A.l.t.), August 24, 2021, through 2400 hours, A.l.t., December 31, 2021, according to James Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
This action is necessary to fully use the 2021 groundfish total allowable catch available for non-Rockfish Program catcher vessels directed fishing for groundfish, other than pollock, using trawl gear in the Western and Central Regulatory Areas of the Gulf of Alaska. This action is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.25(a)(1)(i), (a)(2)(i)(C), and (a)(2)(iii)(D). Other closures remain in full force and effect.
