IB 99-103: NMFS Prohibits Retention of Shortraker and Rougheye Rockfish in the Western GOA

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting retention of shortraker and rougheye rockfish in the Western Regulatory Area (Statistical Area 610, between 159 degrees and 170 degrees W. longitudes) of the Gulf of Alaska, effective 1200 hrs, Alaska local time, September 8, 1999, according to Steven Pennoyer, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary because the amount of the 1999 total allowable catch of shortraker and rougheye rockfish in this area has been achieved and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(d)(2).

NMFS is requiring that catches of shortraker and rougheye rockfish in this area be treated in the manner as prohibited species and discarded at sea with a minimum of injury.

This information bulletin provides notice that a regulatory change has occurred. Do not rely upon it to guide you in complying with the new regulatory change.
