IB 99-108: NMFS Prohibits Retention of Pacific Ocean Perch in the Western Aleutian Islands

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting retention of Pacific ocean perch in the Western Aleutian District of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area, effective 1200 hrs, Alaska local time, September 17, 1999, according to Steven Pennoyer, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

The Western Aleutian District consists of Statistical area 543 — south of 55 degrees N. latitude and between 177 degrees E.longitude and the western limit of the US EEZ.

This action is necessary because the amount of the 1999 total allowable catch of Pacific ocean perch in this area has been achieved and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(d)(2).

NMFS is requiring that catches of Pacific ocean perch in this area be treated in the manner as prohibited species and discarded at sea with a minimum of injury.

This information bulletin provides notice that a regulatory change has occurred. Do not rely upon it to guide you in complying with the new regulatory change.
