September 28, 1999 - 4:25 p.m.

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting retention of shortraker and rougheye rockfish in the Eastern Regulatory Area (Statistical Areas 640 and 650, east of 147 degrees W. longitude southward to the limits of the US EEZ) of the Gulf Of Alaska, effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, October 1, 1999, according to Steven Pennoyer, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary because the amount of the 1999 total allowable catch of shortraker and rougheye rockfish in this area has been achieved and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(d)(2).

NMFS is requiring that catches of shortraker and rougheye rockfish in this area be treated in the same manner as prohibited species and discarded at sea with a minimum of injury.
