IB 99-18: Prohibit Trawling in Steller Sea Lion Critical Habitat in the Central Aleutian District

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting trawling within Steller sea lion critical habitat in the Central Aleutian District of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area, effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, February13, 1999, until the directed fishery for Atka mackerel closes within the entire Central Aleutian District, according to Steven Pennoyer, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary because the 1999 critical habitat percentage of the interim harvest specifications of Atka mackerel allocated to the Central Aleutian District has been reached and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.22(a)(8)(iii)(A).

Steller sea lion critical habitat is defined at 50 CFR part 226,Table 1, Table 2, and Figure 4.

This information bulletin provides notice that a regulatory change has occurred. Do not rely upon it to guide you in complying with the regulatory change.
