IB 99-72: NMFS Closes Pacific Ocean Perch in the Central Aleutian Islands

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting directed fishing for Pacific ocean perch in the Central Aleutian District of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area, effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, July 28, 1999, according to Steven Pennoyer, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

The Central Aleutian District consists of Statistical area 542 — south of 55 degrees N. latitude and between 177 degrees W. longitude and 177 degrees E. longitude.

This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 1999 total allowable catch of Pacific ocean perch for this area and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(d)(1)(iii).

After the effective date of this closure, the maximum retainable bycatch amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip.
