Caroline Cummings, M.S.

Marine Mammal Specialist

Caroline is a Marine Mammal Specialist for NOAA Fisheries where she works on threatened and endangered species recovery and management. Prior to joining NOAA in 2022, she was a sea otter biologist for the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Her background also includes work with the US Geological Survey-Western Ecological Research Center, NOAA’s Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program, and the Navy’s Marine Mammal Program. She earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a M.S. in Marine Mammal Science from the University of St. Andrews. Her graduate work investigated the role of harmful algal toxins in the decline of Scottish harbor seal populations. Although originally from the Phoenix desert, she has adapted to Alaska life surprisingly well, and you can often find her outside exploring with her husky in her free time.
