Josh Keaton, M.S.
Josh Keaton is a Supervisory Fishery Management Specialist for Sustainable Fisheries with over 25 years of experience in fisheries and fishery management. He holds a B.S. in Fisheries from Sheldon Jackson College and an M.S. in GIS Spatial Analysis from the University of Arizona.
Prior to his career with NOAA Fisheries, he worked as a crew member on Alaska fishing vessels (1996–2000) and as a North Pacific Fisheries Observer (2000). He joined NOAA Fisheries Alaska Region in 2001 and has since held multiple roles, including 20 years with Inseason Management overseeing multiple fisheries in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. He has also served in multiple leadership roles, including Acting RAM Supervisor, a leadership detail with the National Ocean Service, and Acting Assistant Regional Administrator for Sustainable Fisheries.
Since 2020, Josh has been the supervisor of the Monitoring Branch, which is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing programs that collect, support, and verify fishery data used for management. His work involves overseeing the development and implementation of monitoring programs in Alaska fisheries and conducting analyses of fisheries data and geographic information systems (GIS).
