Tips for Vessel Monitoring System Troubleshooting
Recommended tips for troubleshooting an inoperable VMS unit.
CLS Triton Advanced
Recommended tips when troubleshooting a CLS Triton Advanced:
- Check to see if there is sufficient power flowing properly to the VMS unit (e.g., at least 12 volts). This includes any battery/power supply that is powering the VMS unit.
- Check to see if all external connections/cables to the VMS unit are secured and nothing seems to be externally corroded or damaged.
- Check if there are any lights on the VMS unit currently (e.g., cycle of lights, steady red light, blinking green, etc.).
- A steady green light on the Power LED (1st LED with a power symbol shape) should indicate a VMS unit that is functioning normally.
- You can also attempt to do a Manual Junction BOX reset (just once if possible):
- Look for the black button labeled “Test" on the white junction box.
- Hold down the button for about 1 minute or until all lights go out.
- When you let go, you may hear a beep and would wait until all the lights come back on and it should settle to a steady green light on the Power LED.
SkyMate m1600
Recommended tips when troubleshooting a SkyMate m1600:
- Check to see if there is sufficient power flowing properly to the VMS unit (e.g., at least 12 volts). This includes any battery/power supply that is powering the VMS unit.
- Check to see if all external connections/cables to the VMS unit are secured and nothing seems to be externally corroded or damaged.
- Check if there are any lights on the VMS unit currently (e.g., cycle of lights, steady red light, etc.).
- A steady green light on the Power LED (1st LED with a power symbol shape) should indicate a VMS unit that is reporting normally, and 2nd and 3rd LEDS (for GPS and Wi-Fi) may also be steady green as well.
Note: You usually cannot soft reset the Skymate VMS. You may have to disconnect power to do a hard reset. It is best before disconnecting power that Skymate has troubleshooted the VMS first, as you may have to deplete the internal battery on a Skymate VMS. This could take up to 24 hours, then connect power to complete the hard reset.
