NOAA and Partners Respond to Hooked Juvenile Seal R7AF
NOAA Fisheries and partners captured, treated, and released an injured juvenile male Hawaiian monk seal that ingested a fishing hook on January 22, 2022.
NOAA Fisheries, together with The Marine Mammal Center, Hawaiʻi Marine Animal Response, and the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to hooked juvenile male Hawaiian monk seal R7AF (known previously as N2) at Hanauma Bay on January 27, 2022. The seal was flown to The Marine Mammal Center's Hawaiian monk seal hospital and visitor center, Ke Kai Ola, on Hawaiʻi Island, and treated for fishing gear ingestion. R7AF was released on Oʻahu on February 2, 2022.
