NOAA Fisheries is releasing a final Action Plan to reduce Atlantic sturgeon bycatch in gillnet fisheries by 2024. The Action Plan includes an information review and recommendations to the New England and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Councils.

NOAA Fisheries has disapproved the Illex squid permit measures of Amendment 22 to the Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish Fishery Management Plan.

NOAA Fisheries has set Gulf of Maine (GOM) cod and haddock recreational measures for fishing year 2022.

This action increases the 2022 Illex squid domestic annual harvest of 38,156 mt. This action will also adjust the closure threshold for the Illex fishery from 94 percent to 96 percent.

NOAA Fisheries is closing the directed longfin squid fishery in federal waters through the end of Trimester II, August 31, 2022.

The report describes the current state of on-demand, or “ropeless,” fishing and outlines a path for increasing adoption of this technology in commercial fisheries in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean.

The inshore midwater trawl restricted area is not in effect and will be removed from federal regulations through an upcoming rulemaking.

NOAA Fisheries is approving and implementing Framework 9. Effective August 18, 2022.

We approved Framework Adjustment 63 to the Northeast Multispecies Fishery Management Plan and are announcing final quotas for fishing year 2022, effective July 15, 2022. This action also approves and implements recreational measures for Georges Bank cod.
