Casey Ralston

Background

Casey Ralston is the Education Coordinator at Northwest Fisheries Science Center. Before coming to NOAA, she worked as an aquatic biologist, an environmental scientist, a whale watch naturalist, and a field educator. She has worked extensively with scientists, students, and teachers, and is experienced in leading classroom and field-based education programs and translating scientific information for non-scientific audiences. Casey has a B.S. in Ecology from UC Davis, a Graduate Certificate in Education, Environment, and Community, and a M.S. in Biology for Teaching from the University of Washington.

Current Responsibilities

Casey develops education goals and priorities for the Center and works with scientists and local partners to develop education programs and resources that share NWFSC science with a variety of audiences. Casey leads teacher workshops, manages the student internship program, develops curricula, creates hands-on activities, and designs exhibits. She coordinates the Center's participation in NOAA Science Camp and the National Ocean Sciences Bowl, and participates in the Puget Sound Partnership's Education, Communications, Outreach Network (ECO Net). Additionally, she sits on the Pacific Northwest BWET (Bay Watershed Education Training) Steering Committee and serves on the national Fisheries Education Council. Casey's other responsibilities include evaluating existing programs, reviewing proposals, maintaining the education website, and participating in public outreach events.
