Education

  • A.A.S Marine Technology - Cape Fear Community College, 2023

Professional History

  • 2023 - Present: Laboratory Research Technician, NOAA Affiliate
  • 2022: Intern Lab Technician - Algal Resources Collection, MARBIONC

Isaac joined the Milford Laboratory in 2023 as one of the first research technicians hired to begin work on the Northeast Oyster Breeding Center. The breeding center is a collaborative interagency research project between the NOAA Fisheries Milford Laboratory and the USDA Agricultural Research Service. The project leverages modern genetic tools and genomic performance evaluation to selectively breed lines of the Eastern oyster that are more resilient in the face of changing environmental conditions in the region’s oyster growing areas. It will support and bolster the resiliency of the United States’ oyster aquaculture industry.

As part of the laboratory’s microalgal group, Isaac serves as the Northeast Oyster Breeding Center’s aquaculture algologist technician. He oversees microalgal culture and feeding operations for the breeding center’s broodstock, larvae and oyster seed. In addition to operating the laboratory’s dual, 1,250 liter microalgal photobioreactors, he’s currently working to establish hanging bag cultures within the microalgal mass culture room.
