Katherine (Kathy) Maze Foley, M.S.

Kathy Maze Foley is a Senior Research Associate for the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies working with the NOAA Fisheries' Southeast Fisheries Science Center.

Kathy has been studying marine mammals since 1995 when she began her thesis research project. She completed a Master’s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences at Texas A&M University and then joined the Southeast Fisheries Science Center in 1997. She has worked on a variety of research projects in the Gulf of America, Atlantic Ocean, and Caribbean Sea during her time with the Center.

Much of Kathy’s work involves writing and updating annual U.S. Atlantic and Gulf of America marine mammal stock assessment reports and related tasks, such as reviewing reports of injured small cetaceans and writing an annual report summarizing serious injury determinations, and maintaining records of human-caused mortality and serious injury cases by source for each common bottlenose dolphin stock in the southeast U.S. She also helps to manage the Center’s scientific research permit and collaborate on other projects, papers, and reports.
