Samantha Werner

Economist

Samantha earned a Master of Science degree in Environmental Economics from the University of New Hampshire (UNH) in 2017 after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the UNH in 2014. Samantha joined the Northeast Fisheries Science Center as an economist contractor with the Social Sciences Branch (SSB) in 2017 and became a federal employee in February of 2020.

Research

As an SSB economist, Samantha focuses on economic data collection, fisheries economics research, as well as fisheries management support. Samantha is a member of the SSB Cost Survey Working Group which compiles and implements the Greater Atlantic Region Commercial Fishing Business Cost Survey. She also leads the development of a fisheries cost data web application and produces commercial trip costs estimates using econometric modeling techniques. Samantha has additional research interests in forecasting ex-vessel seafood prices and assessing the economic implications of offshore wind on fisheries. Samantha also contributed to the economic analyses presented in the five-year review of the Groundfish Catch Share Program.
