This opinion considers the effects of in-water pile driving of steel piles and the placement of fill in marine waters, construction vessel traffic, and support operations in Port Frederick Inlet on Chichagof Island in Hoonah, Alaska.
The action may affect endangered sperm whale, threatened Mexico and endangered Western North Pacific (WNP) distinct population segments (DPS) humpback whale, endangered Western DPS Steller sea lion, and the proposed threatened sunflower sea star, but no designated critical habitat fall within the action area.
This opinion is based on information provided in the Biological Assessment (BA), IHA Application, and Proposed IHA (90 FR 1084, January 7, 2025). Other sources of information relied upon include consultation communications (emails and virtual meetings), recent consultations completed in the same region, previous monitoring reports, and marine mammal surveys conducted in Port Frederick Inlet.
