New York Bight Distinct Population Segment of Atlantic Sturgeon 5-Year Review

February 17, 2022

This document is the ESA 5-year review of the species based on the best available data.

Under section 4(c)(2) of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), we are required to conduct a review of all listed species at least once every 5 years to assess whether the current listing status remains accurate. In 2012, NOAA Fisheries listed the New York Bight Distinct Population Segment of Atlantic Sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus) as endangered under the ESA. In 2018, we initiated the 5-year review, which was conducted by the NOAA Fisheries Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office. We conclude that no change to the listing status of the New York Bight Distinct Population Segment of Atlantic Sturgeon is warranted at this time.
