Recovery Outline for the Atlantic Sturgeon Distinct Population Segments

March 01, 2018

This document presents a preliminary outline for the recovery of all five distinct population segments of Atlantic sturgeon—the endangered New York Bight, Chesapeake Bay, Carolina, and South Atlantic distinct population segments and the threatened Gulf of Maine distinct population segment. It is meant to serve as interim guidance to direct recovery efforts, including recovery planning, until a full recovery plan is developed and approved.

The recovery outline is intended primarily for internal use by NOAA Fisheries as a preplanning document. Formal public participation in recovery planning for the Atlantic sturgeon distinct population segments will be invited upon the release of the draft recovery plan for these distinct population segments. Any new information or comments that members of the public may wish to offer as a result of this recovery outline will be taken into consideration during the recovery planning process.
