The bluefin tuna Harpoon category fishery is closed effective 11:30 p.m. on August 8, 2019. The closure will remain in effect for the remainder of the 2019 fishing year.
Based on the best available landing information, NOAA Fisheries projects that the adjusted 91-mt quota for this fishery has been met.
People aboard vessels with a Harpoon category permit may not retain, possess, or land large medium or giant bluefin tuna after 11:30 p.m. on August 8, 2019.
The Harpoon category will reopen on June 1, 2020.
