Closure of Bluefin Tuna Harpoon Category Fishery for 2020
Summary
The bluefin tuna Harpoon category fishery is closed effective 11:30 p.m. on August 5, 2020. The closure will remain in effect through November 15, 2020, the end of the 2020 Harpoon category season.
Based on the best available landing information, NOAA Fisheries projects that the adjusted 76-mt quota for this fishery has been met and exceeded.
People aboard vessels with a Harpoon category permit may not retain, possess, or land large medium or giant bluefin tuna after 11:30 p.m. on August 5, 2020.
The Harpoon category will reopen on June 1, 2021.
