Summary

On August 5, 2021, NOAA Fisheries published a final rule that required the use of electronic logbooks in the Hawaii pelagic longline fisheries and on Class C and D vessels in the American Samoa pelagic longline fishery. In that rule NOAA Fisheries inadvertently removed unrelated regulations that require main Hawaiian Islands non-commercial bottomfish permit holders to submit paper logbooks within 72 hours of the end of a fishing trip. In this rule, NOAA Fisheries corrects the error and reinstates that requirement. The intent of the rule is to ensure timely monitoring and reporting of catch and other information in the main Hawaiian Islands non-commercial bottomfish fishery. This final rule is effective on November 1, 2021, and applicable beginning September 7, 2021.
