Summary

Generic Amendment 1 would prohibit the use of buoy gear for those fishing recreationally in federal waters around Puerto Rico, St. Croix, and St. Thomas and St. John. For those fishing commercially in federal waters, the amendment would modify the definition of buoy gear - increasing the maximum number of hooks allowed between the buoy and the terminal end from 10 to 25.

The Caribbean Fishery Management Council submitted Generic Amendment 1 for review and implementation in November 2022.
