Congratulations to Kayleigh Coffey, winner of the Cook Inlet beluga drawing and naming contest. We had 43 names submitted in the Beluga whale naming contest along with some great drawings and photos.
"Baliey" was submitted by Kayleigh, along with this wonderful artwork. This will be used to name a beluga whale in the Cook Inlet Photo ID catalog.
Thanks to our partners and to everyone who participated!
Hunkered Down Beluga Spotting
Help celebrate the spring return of the endangered Cook Inlet beluga whale to Turnagain Arm, Alaska, while you're hunkered down at home!
Participants were asked to:
- Download, print, and color our beluga drawing, use a toy beluga, or design your own beluga. Or, if you have a printed photo of a beluga whale, you can use that too.
- Hang a photo, toy, or drawing in your window for others walking or driving by to spot.
- Name your beluga and enter into the Name a Whale Contest to name a beluga whale in the Cook Inlet Photo ID catalog. Please send your beluga names to this email address: dfg.dwc.belugawhales@alaska.gov. A winner will be drawn and announced May 15, 2020.
Remember, Belugas STILL Count! during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stay safe everybody.
